Custom Closets in Toronto

In a pre-war Toronto bedroom the usable wall is rarely where you want it. Chimney breasts eat the centre of the room. Bedroom doors swing into the only run long enough for hanging. Ceilings slope over the stair. We treat those as design constraints rather than obstacles: double hanging on the short wall, drawers under the slope where nothing else fits, a shallow shoe bank behind the door swing.

Older homes also move. Floors are rarely level and walls are rarely plumb, which is why we scribe and shim every install rather than assuming a square opening. It is the difference between a closet that closes properly in year three and one that does not.

Condo closets are a different discipline. Depth is often below the 24 inches a standard system assumes, so we build shallower carcasses with angled hanging rather than losing the closet entirely. Where there is a den or a wide hallway, a floor-to-ceiling wardrobe wall usually gains more storage than reworking the original closet.

The building itself sets the schedule. Most downtown and midtown buildings require a service elevator booking, a certificate of insurance filed with property management, and installation inside set hours. We handle that paperwork — we have done it in enough buildings that it no longer slows anything down.
