Alongside Brampton’s big detached homes, a fast-growing share of the city is semi-detached and freehold townhouses — three storeys on a narrow lot, with a great room that’s tall and deep but not especially wide. That shape is its own design problem. A standard-width entertainment unit looks marooned against a two-storey wall, and a room that’s deep but narrow can’t give up floor space to a bulky cabinet.
